Actaeon retro travel poster

In a group we created the concept for our planet we  would promote space tourism for. we decided we would create our own imaginary planet which we would name after a mythical god and it would be purple. After some research we named the planet Actaeon after the Greek god/ hero.  This is the poster I created on Adobe Illustrator to promote space tourism to Actaeon. I based the design on a magazine cover from my secondary research on 60s space posters.                                     I used solid colours rather than gradients and used a calligraphy style outline around the purple land shape to mimic the pen style used on the 60s cover art. I used the paintbrush tool to draw the rivers connecting the lake and the sea. I added bulges to the top of the land with the pen tool to resemble huge mountains. I added black shadows to them to create more depth. For the atmosphere Used the pen tool to draw a flowing white cloud on the layer behind the planet and i added wiggly white

Mars Poster

This Mars poster was my first attempt at creating a space themed poster that looks retro. I think I was successful in copying the distinct look of 1960s space art because I made it have a simplistic look and I drew the rocket to look like the typical rocket design people envisioned in the 60s.

Inspirational images for retro space style

To inspire my own work I researched into retro style and vintage sci-fi art. I collected images that I thought best resembled this theme. I mainly focused on collecting authentic 1950/60s sci-fi art because I wanted mine to look as similar to these as possible in terms of style. I particularly like the colour scheme of this image. All the colours used are bright but they have a slightly toned down saturation and a grainy texture. I want to recreate this in my own designs so they would blend in if put next to posters like this as if they were created at the same time. This book cover represents the typical cliche 60s ideal image of the future. The tight fitting, super hero reminiscent spacesuits with pants on the outside and glass dome helmets are impractical and ridiculous. The rocket ship is very generic for the time and not very well suited for high speed travel with its un-aerodynamic bulging shape. However, despite the criticisms I think the flaws add
